How to add a video to an eBay listing

8 min read

To add a video to an eBay listing, open the listing form in a web browser and choose Add video in the Photos & Video section, or tap the + in Photos and video in the eBay app if you list from My eBay. A listing holds one video, so use it for what photos can't show: the item working, a flaw that only shows in motion, or its real size.

An eBay listing video is one clip, and by default it sits second in the photo gallery, straight after your main photo. One slot is worth planning. A photo of a blender can only suggest it works; a short clip of it running shows the buyer. Every eBay rule here was checked against eBay's own pages on October 5, 2026.

How do you add a video to an eBay listing?

You add it from the photo section of the listing form. Which route works depends on where you list.

  1. In a web browser: select Add videoIt's in the Photos & Video section of the listing form, and eBay's help page says all sellers can use it. eBay's Export help, the site eBay runs for selling worldwide, adds that you can drag the file onto the page, or use Import from mobile or Import from web.
  2. In the eBay app: tap the + in Photos and videoIt's on the Listing summary page, for My eBay users. eBay says app upload is "not currently available for Seller Hub users, though it will be available soon", so for now Seller Hub users list in a web browser. That's eBay's own wording, so it may change.
  3. On a live listing: revise iteBay's Export help says the same Add video button works when you revise a listing.
  4. Wait for eBay's reviewBuyers see the clip only after it passes. The review times for an eBay video upload are in the rules table below.

No Add video button at all? eBay's Export help says you're in the classic view of the Sell Your Item form. Click Try the new listing tool in the top right corner.

Listing through software? Ask your provider: video goes in through eBay's Media API (Managing videos documentation).

What does eBay allow in a listing video?

One video per listing, as an MP4 or MOV file, checked by eBay before buyers see it. Every eBay limit in this post lives in this table:

Where does the video show up in an eBay listing?

Second in the photo gallery, after the main photo. eBay's Export help says videos take that spot "by default" and "can't be rearranged"; eBay's Seller Center says "right after the first image". Where buyers can watch is less clear: the help page says "in the eBay app and the mobile browser", Seller Center names the app, and neither names a desktop browser.

So treat the video as extra. The main photo and the first lines of the description still carry the listing, and a flaw should never live only in the video. Show it in a photo and name it in the description too, as the listing photo checklist sets out.

What should the one eBay listing video show?

It should show what a still photo can't: the item working, a flaw that only shows when it moves, or its real size. That's a rule of thumb, and eBay's Seller Center points the same way: it suggests video to "demonstrate fit and sizing, or explain any defects or damages".

What to film, by the buyer's question (rule of thumb)
Buyer's questionFilm this
Does it work?Switch it on from off and use the main function once
Is anything wrong a photo would miss? The flaw in motion: a wobble, a loose hinge, a sticking zip, a flicker, a rattle. Photograph it too, per how to photograph a flaw
How big is it?The item beside a tape measure, or in a hand
Is it all there?Every part laid out, then each one picked up

Shoot it in three beats, in this order: the whole item, so the buyer knows it's the one in the photos; the proof, switched on, moving, measured or counted; then the flaw, close and steady, the same one your photos show.

A worked example (hypothetical)

A used cordless drill with a battery and a charger. An illustration, not a real listing:

  1. Whole item. Drill, battery and charger together on the table. Turn the drill round once so every side shows.
  2. Proof. Click the battery in, pull the trigger, switch to reverse, pull it again.
  3. Flaw. Say the chuck has a scuff. Hold the camera on it, close and still, then stop. The same scuff is in a photo and named in the description.

Not every item needs a video. As a rule of thumb, film when the item switches on, moves, has to fit, or has a flaw that only shows in motion. Skip it for books, prints and plates, where the photos show everything.

Can one clip go on many listings?

Yes. eBay's help page says you upload a video once and then associate it with different listings. Selling several units of one model? Film one clip of it working and attach it to each listing. A rule of thumb: reuse a clip only when it shows nothing unique to one unit, since a flaw clip belongs to one item. If you photograph in batches, film in the same sitting, as in shooting a week of inventory at once.

How do you film and add an eBay video from your phone?

Record the clip on your phone, then add it with the + in Photos and video in the eBay app if you're a My eBay user, or in a web browser if you're on Seller Hub, where eBay's Export help says the form has an Import from mobile button. Before you press record, a rule-of-thumb list:

  • Hold it still. Use a tripod or a steady surface, or brace your elbows, the same as for sharp phone photos. eBay rejects footage that is blurry, undefined or distorted.
  • Film where you take your photos. Same light, same background, so the clip matches the gallery.
  • Quiet the room. Turn off the radio and the TV. eBay's policy rejects audio used without the rights owner's permission, and background music is audio you don't own.
  • Pick the flaw first. Film only a flaw you'll also photograph and describe in text.

Then watch it once with the sound on. If the item drifts out of focus, or you hear a name or number you missed while filming, film it again rather than risk a rejection.

Why can't you add a video to your eBay listing?

Usually the form is in classic view, you're a Seller Hub user in the app, or the listing has variations. The causes eBay names, in one place:

What can't an eBay listing video include?

Nothing that sends buyers off eBay, nothing you don't own, and nothing too poor to see. From eBay's images, videos and text policy:

  • Size and quality: over the file size cap in the rules table, or blurry, undefined or distorted.
  • Off-eBay contact: contact details, web addresses or a call to visit another site, on screen or spoken.
  • Content you don't own: video from a manufacturer's website, even a public one, or audio used without permission. Shoot your own.
  • Personal information: any personally identifiable information.
  • Illegal, offensive or sexual content.

Questions people ask about eBay listing videos

Why can't I add a video to my eBay listing?
Usually the form is in classic view (click Try the new listing tool), you're a Seller Hub user in the app (use a web browser), or the listing has variations, which eBay says don't support videos.
Can I put a video in my eBay listing?
Yes. eBay accepts one MP4 or MOV video per listing, added with Add video in the listing form or the + in the eBay app. Buyers see it once it passes eBay's review.
How long of a video can you add to an eBay listing?
eBay's policy recommends under 1 minute, but the hard limit is file size: videos over 150MB are not allowed.

Do this first: add the video, film the one thing a photo can't show, and name any flaw in the description too.

Disclosure The people who build FlowLister run Listing Photo Lab. FlowLister is AI eBay listing software that turns item photos into complete eBay listings. Because it works from photos, a clear photo helps it and a blurry one doesn't. That's our interest in better photos. It's AI, so it misses things. Nothing here needs our tool.
